Neonatal respiratory morbidity following exposure to chorioamnionitis
BACKGROUND There are conflicting results in the literature on the impact of chorioamnionitis on neonatal respiratory morbidities. However, most studies are based on small clinical samples and fail to account for the competing risk of perinatal death. This study aimed to determine whether chorioamnionitis affects the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia...
متن کاملRole of automation in neonatal respiratory support.
Premature infants frequently present with respiratory instability, which is associated with fluctuations in ventilation and gas exchange. Adjustment of respiratory support to the infant's needs is limited by staff availability and workload. Hence, automation is being explored as a way to improve the care of the premature infants. New modes of automatic respiratory support are being developed an...
متن کاملNeonatal benzodiazepines exposure during breastfeeding.
OBJECTIVE To assess central nervous system depression and other adverse effects in infants exposed to benzodiazepines through breast milk. STUDY DESIGN A prospectively recruited, retrospectively assessed cohort study of mothers who contacted the Motherisk program regarding the safety of benzodiazepines and were invited to participate in a follow-up program regarding the effects of these medic...
متن کاملRespiratory muscles during ventilatory support.
Knowledge of the fate and behaviour of the respiratory muscles during ventilatory support is important for the guidance of clinical care. Full support facilitates muscle metabolic repletion, but exposes them to the risk of disuse atrophy. The effect of partial support varies according to the selected mode: assisted mechanical ventilation (AMV) and synchronized intermittent mechanical ventilatio...
متن کاملRespiratory function monitoring during neonatal emergency transport.
This study reports for the first time the use of a respiratory function monitor in a prospective observational cohort of ventilated babies during transport. All 17 babies achieved target transcutaneous carbon dioxide tension within 15 minutes. Fifteen babies had improved ventilation with changes guided by the respiratory function monitor. The monitor was easy to use and useful.
